The close

The price side of a dividend

2 min read · Data of 7 November 2026

Closes, changes and 52-week places for ten companies, and how an ex-date moves the printed price.

The price on the day

The board shows the close of 6 November 2026, the previous close and the change. The change compares the close with the previous close as the screener prints them.

A change on an ex-date mixes the market's move with the mechanical adjustment for the dividend. The page does not try to separate them.

What the ranges say, and not

1 of the ten closes are in the lowest quarter of their own 52-week range and 4 in the highest; ONGC is nearest its low (14.9 of 100) and KOTAKBANK nearest its high (100.0).

A close low in its range raises the dividend per rupee invested if the dividend stays the same, and says nothing about whether it will. The place is a location, not a signal.

Questions about dividends

Why does a share fall on its ex-date?

Because the share no longer carries the declared dividend; the price is adjusted for the amount.

What is place in the range?

(close − low) ÷ (high − low) times 100, with the 52-week extremes as the source prints them.

Is the close a price I can pay?

No. It is the last price of a finished session.
